Three years ago I decided to get into PC gaming. I wanted a desk that would be able to hold all of my equipment but not feel too crowded. I looked around at some fancy gaming desks as well as bigger office desks. Many of them were very expensive to get the size I was looking for so I decided to build my own.

The table top itself is made from 3 2x6x8 pieces of wood. I cut each pieces to 6ft length and ran them through the table saw to take off the rounded edge so that each piece would fit flush with the other one. I then pocket holed, glued and clamped those 3 pieces together. While that was drying, I framed out the legs using 2x4s and 1x2 to create that double "X" look. I ran a chamfer bit on the edges of the front 2 2x4s to give a beveled look and a little flair. All of these pieces were pocket holed together.

After the table glue was dry, I framed the edges and underneath the edges with 1x2s and a 1x4 in the back to allow me to conceal the cords easier. I attached the outer 1x2s with glue and a nail gun and the pieces underneath with pocket holes. I then filled in all of the holes and imperfections in the tabletop with wood filler. I sanded this of all with 60, 80, 120, 220 grit sand paper.

Next I stained the tabletop in Kona stain. While waiting for the stain to dry, I painted the first coat of white on both legs. After the stain was dry, I applied 2 layers of clear coat, added a 2nd coat of white to the legs and pre-drilled holes in the legs that would be used to attach them to the tabletop.

After all of the work was finished, I set the tabletop on the legs just to check fitment and snap another picture. I then took all 3 pieces to the 3rd floor making 2 separate trips where I then reassembled the pieces and moved the desk to the final location.

A couple months after building this, my wife (Ciji) asked if I could build her one. So I gave her the one I had already built and made myself another. I also added another shelf down below on both desk just to give some extra storage. This was made with 2x6s and 2x4s. Both desks are still going strong and used on the daily.
