This project idea was a direct result of the previous project post so I felt it was appropriate to post it next in line. The last project post was the transformation of our dining room to an exercise room. This was a great decision but also posed a danger as we had to figure out a way to keep our toddler out.

Our first solution was to use one of the super baby gates and that would allow the adults and older kids access to the room while keeping out the youngest. This lasted for a while but we knew eventually she would try to climb the gate and potentially get hurt. We also looked at this as an opportunity to completely conceal the workout room while adding a stylish touch to the foyer. We even got a quote from a company to see how much they would charge to do this for us and after staring at the potential $700 savings, we decided to tackle it ourselves.

The doors themselves are made from 3/4 maple plywood, each door cut from their own 4x8 sheet. For a cleaner look, I didn't want the rough plywood edges to show so I used 3/4 veneer edging strips to cover them up. This was my first time using this type of product and I must say I was impressed! It was very easy to measure the length, cut and then use a normal household iron to heat the glue and apply the banding.

The plywood was then clamped and glued with a 1x4 & 1x6 frame which was joined together using Kreg pocket-hole screws .

After all 4 doors were assembled, I primed and painted 2 coats on each side with Sherwin-Williams extra white paint.

The next step was to install a header board to attach the railing hardware to. I located several studs and attached the 1x4 header using header-lok lag screws. I measured and drilled the holes ahead of mounting the board to the wall.

The final steps were to install the hardware and hang all 4 doors. I bought a 10ft sliding door track from Amazon based off of our dimensions, the specification as well as the reviews on the product.

I did this project right before the office shelves. This allowed me to use some of the left over wood for that project, saving us some money and keeping the diy spirit going! We love the ability to keep a clean look for the foyer entrance while providing a barrier to the workout equipment.
